Assessment and Qualifications Alliance (AQA) GCSE Citizenship Paper 2 Practice

The University and College Union (UCU) organized a series of strikes in response to pension changes at the University of Oxford. This approach emphasizes collective action by union members to protest against policy changes affecting their pensions, demonstrating the union's commitment to advocating for the rights and benefits of its members. Strikes serve as a powerful way to draw public attention to grievances and can apply pressure on the university administration to reconsider its decisions regarding pensions.

While other options such as lobbying for legislation, a public seminar, and negotiation meetings could represent different forms of advocacy or discussion, a series of strikes directly mobilizes union members and serves as a more immediate form of protest against specific changes, particularly in the education sector where employee rights and benefits are crucial issues. The effectiveness of strikes is rooted in the ability to disrupt normal operations, thereby highlighting the importance of the issues at stake.
